Femke Laan Attends ISELP 3D Imaging Module at Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre

Heesch, April 20 – Last week, our-in house veterinarian, Femke Laan, attended the 3D Imaging Module by ISELP, hosted by Sporthorse Medical Diagnostic Centre in Heesch, the Netherlands. The two-day module brought together some of the leading experts in advanced equine imaging and focused on the practical integration of 3D imaging techniques into daily veterinary practice.

3D Imaging as a Diagnostic Tool

The ISELP module focused on using 3D imaging as a practical diagnostic tool in equine medicine. During the course, participants worked with case-based examples and learned more about the strengths and applications of MRI, CT, and scintigraphy in diagnosing orthopedic and locomotor-related problems in horses.

Topics covered included:

  • The imaging characteristics of normal tissue;
  • Selecting the most appropriate imaging modality and region;
  • Recognizing and interpreting lesions;
  • Understanding when and why advanced imaging should be used;
  • Applying imaging findings to support diagnosis, treatment decisions, and recovery outcomes.

The program also addressed the fundamentals of image acquisition, follow-up imaging, and the interpretation of findings in lame horses. Through interactive sessions and practical workshops, participants gained further insight into how advanced imaging can contribute to more accurate diagnoses and more effective treatment plans.

According to ISELP, the module was designed to provide practitioners with a clinically applicable understanding of MRI, CT, and scintigraphy that can immediately be implemented in practice.

The course featured a number of internationally recognized specialists in equine diagnostic imaging and locomotor pathology, including Dr. Kurt Selberg, Dr. Elisabeth van Veggel, Dr. Brenda Hoogelander and Dr. Erik Bergman.

Unique combination: Veterinary Expertise and Equine Law

By continuing to invest in advanced veterinary knowledge, our firm keeps its expertise and network up to date with the latest developments in equine medicine. This enables us to offer our clients the unique combination of veterinary expertise and equine law knowledge that forms the basis of the tailored advice and representation we provide.

Our experience shows that many equine legal matters involve a veterinary component. Advanced knowledge of imaging techniques and diagnostic procedures is therefore highly valuable in cases involving, for example, hidden defects, veterinary liability, pre-purchase examinations, or disputes regarding the condition and soundness of a horse.

At Schelstraete Equine Law, we believe that understanding both the legal and veterinary aspects of a matter leads to stronger advice, better representation, and more effective solutions for our clients.
