Does My Employer Have the Authority to Oblige Me to Wear a Face Mask?

The answer according to the Dutch law is yes. The employer has the so-called right of instruction, stipulated by law. Just as your employer is able to determine that you have to wear safety clothing or to determine that you are not allowed to use the internet for private matters during working hours, he/she can also determine that wearing a face mask is mandatory during working hours.

Of course, this goes quite far, but an employer is responsible to maintain a safe working environment. If there are a number of employees that do not consider wearing a face mask necessary, there are others thar are worried of contamination, hence, they would feel unsafe in their working environment.

Tip à as an employer, are you thinking to impose such an obligation? Share your thoughts with your team and take their opinion.
