Schelstraete Equine Law is pleased to announce its conference on ‘PPEs: Challenges and Responsibilities in an International Perspective – The Same Report, Opposing Interests: Lawyers, Veterinarians, and PPEs’. The conference will feature top-notch speakers, including leading veterinarians and lawyers such as Dr. Mathilde Pluim, Dr. Kurt Selberg, and Dr. Zachary Calo.
Pre-purchase examinations are a critical moment in any equine transaction, yet the legal and veterinary expectations surrounding them are rarely straightforward. This conference brings together veterinary professionals to explore the legal, veterinary, and international dimensions of PPEs and the responsibilities they entail.
Attendees will gain a clear understanding of the purpose and scope of a PPE, what can reasonably be expected from the veterinarian conducting the examination, and which findings should be reported, even when doing so may jeopardize a sale. The conference will also examine how lawyers approach and interpret a PPE report, and what role the veterinarian plays within the broader legal and commercial context of an equine transaction. In addition, a dedicated part of the program will address how different legal systems and professional standards across jurisdictions shape the responsibilities of all parties involved.
By the end of the day, attendees will leave with practical insights into the responsibilities of all parties involved and a clearer framework for navigating the legal challenges that PPEs present — both in national and international contexts.
The conference will take place on Friday, 25 September 2026 at Van der Valk Hotel Amsterdam Zuidas, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The program runs from 10:00 to 18:00.
The registration fee for the conference is €595 excluding VAT. This fee includes refreshments, lunch, drinks, and digital and printed conference materials.
